More than a hundred students study there, most of them living on site, and among them are orphaned children and children from families in hardship for whom it is both school and home.

Our Origins (2007)

Built on land that was given

The Madrasah was established in 2007 in Madanipur (Kalipur), Kamalganj, in the Moulvibazar district of Bangladesh. The land it stands on was given rather than bought.

Konijabibi, the wife of Haji Mofiz Uddin, donated it together with their children, and she gave it for two institutions rather than one: this Madrasah, and the Mosque that stands beside it.

A school, and a home

Over 100 students currently study at the Madrasah, and almost all of them are residential. Among them are orphaned children and children from families facing real hardship, for whom the Madrasah is not somewhere they attend but somewhere they live.

That changes what the institution has to be. It provides their education and their daily care together, which is why the condition of the building matters as much as the teaching inside it, and why supporting one means supporting the other.

What HF Trust UK has funded, and still supports

In 2011 a two-storey building was constructed at the Madrasah with £192,000 of funding from HF Trust UK. It gave the institution the physical space it needed to teach its students and to house them, and it remains the foundation everything since has been built on.

The Trust's involvement did not end there. It continues to support the Madrasah's development, its facilities and its ongoing educational work, and that support is what donations to the Madrasah go towards.

Education

What is taught here

Three programmes run at the Madrasah, from memorising the Qur'an through to the classical syllabus of Islamic scholarship. They are open to every student living there, whatever their circumstances before they arrived.

Hifz

Memorisation of the Qur'an, word for word, by students who will carry it for the rest of their lives.

Alim

Advanced Islamic study, taking students beyond recitation into understanding.

Dars-e-Nizami

The traditional syllabus followed by madrasahs across the subcontinent for centuries.

One section is currently closed

The Dakhil section of the Madrasah is suspended and is not running at present. Restarting it is one of the institution's aims, and we would rather say so plainly here than let anyone assume it is open. When it does resume, this page will say so.

What Comes Next

The work that is still unfinished

The building constructed in 2011 is not complete, and the Madrasah has grown into it in the years since. These are the priorities HF Trust UK is working towards, and what support for the Madrasah goes towards: the conditions the students live in, as much as the lessons they attend.
