Mission & Vision
What we are here to do.
Our mission is not a phrase we chose for a website. It is the purpose we registered in 2011, and the standard a regulator can hold us to.
Our Mission
Our mission is our registered purpose
Most organisations write a mission statement and then work out how to live up to it. A registered charity does it the other way round: the purpose is filed first, in law, and everything afterwards has to answer to it.
Ours commits us to two things. To advance education and to relieve poverty, sickness and distress among people in Bangladesh, by providing resources for education, health and welfare. And to provide facilities in the interests of social welfare for people who need them by reason of youth, age, infirmity, disability, financial hardship or social circumstances.
Read plainly, that is a mission about two kinds of need. The kind you can see coming, which education answers over years. And the kind that arrives without warning, which relief answers in days.
Every appeal on this site traces back to one of those two clauses. If a project cannot be placed under them, we should not be running it.
Our Vision
The change we want to see
We want to see communities in Bangladesh where a child's future is not decided by what their family can afford, and where illness or a bad season does not undo years of progress in a single month.
We would rather build something that keeps working after we leave than something that photographs well. A well that still runs in ten years, a classroom still teaching, a mosque still open: these are slower to fund and harder to show, and they are what we are for.
We also want to stay small enough to know the people we work through. Growth is not our goal. Being useful, and being trusted with the amanah placed in our hands, is.
What Guides Us
The way we intend to work
These are commitments about how we behave, not claims about what we have achieved. They are the things a donor is entitled to hold us to.
Accountability
How we judge ourselves
A mission is only worth reading if someone can check it. Ours is filed with the Charity Commission for England and Wales, along with our accounts, and both are public.
We would rather you verified us at source than took our word for it. The register is the place to do that.
Support Our Work
A purpose is only worth what it delivers
Education, health and welfare for people in Bangladesh. That is the whole of it, and it is funded entirely by people who choose to give. Choose the cause that means most to you, or let us direct it where the need is greatest.
